📂 File Access & SFTP

Access Your SingleBuck Website Files

Connect securely to your website files using SFTP, the connection details in your SingleBuck Account Hub, and a compatible file-transfer application.

!

Important: Editing, replacing, or deleting website files can affect how your website works. Download a backup copy before making changes, especially when working with WordPress themes, plugins, or system files.

What Is SFTP?

SFTP stands for Secure File Transfer Protocol. It allows you to securely connect your computer to your SingleBuck hosting service so you can view, download, upload, rename, and manage your website files.

You may sometimes hear this described generally as FTP or file access. SingleBuck uses SFTP because it provides an encrypted connection between your device and your hosting service.

  • Download a copy of your website files.
  • Upload website files from your computer.
  • Replace or update individual files.
  • Create, rename, move, or remove folders.
  • Access files when the WordPress dashboard is unavailable.

What You Need

Before connecting, make sure you have:

  • An active SingleBuck hosting service.
  • Your SFTP username.
  • Your SFTP password.
  • The SingleBuck SFTP host and port number.
  • An SFTP application installed on your computer.

Download an SFTP Application

You need a file-transfer application to connect your computer to your hosting service. Choose an option that supports your operating system.

WinSCP is a straightforward file manager designed for secure file transfers on Windows.

Download WinSCP

Download safely: Only download file-transfer software from its official website. SingleBuck does not recommend downloading installers from advertisements, pop-ups, or unrelated download websites.

1

Check Your Hosting-Ready Email

When your SingleBuck hosting service is created, we send you an email confirming that the service is ready.

This email includes the initial SFTP password created for your hosting account. Keep this message in a secure location because passwords are not displayed openly inside the Account Hub.

Cannot find the email? Search your inbox for your SingleBuck hosting-ready message and check your Spam or Junk folder. You can also create a new SFTP password from the Tools panel.

2

Open the Tools Panel

Your service-specific SFTP connection details are available through your SingleBuck Account Hub.

  • Sign in to your SingleBuck account.
  • Open My Account.
  • Select Tools from the account menu.
  • Scroll to SFTP Connection Details.
  • Locate the card showing the correct website or domain.

Choose the correct service: If you have more than one hosting service, each website is shown separately. Be sure you are using the connection details belonging to the website you want to manage.

3

Collect Your Connection Details

Your Tools panel provides the information needed to create the SFTP connection.

Connection Field What to Use
Protocol SFTP
Host panel.singlebuck.ca
Port 22
Username Shown through the SingleBuck Hosting Panel
Password Provided in your hosting-ready email, or replaced through the Tools panel
Document Root Shown through the SingleBuck Hosting Panel

The username and document root are available through the SingleBuck Hosting Panel. Select Open Hosting Panel beside the appropriate service to view them.

4

Enter the Details in Your SFTP Application

Open the SFTP application you installed and create a new connection, site, bookmark, or session.

The wording may vary slightly between applications, but enter the following:

Protocol: SFTP
Host: panel.singlebuck.ca
Port: 22
Username: Your hosting username
Password: Your service’s SFTP password
  • Make sure the protocol is set to SFTP.
  • Do not select ordinary FTP or anonymous access.
  • Enter the complete username exactly as shown.
  • Enter the password provided for that hosting service.
  • Select Connect, Login, or Open.
5

Approve the First Connection

The first time you connect, your application may display a server identity, host key, or fingerprint confirmation.

This is a normal security check used to confirm the identity of the server before the connection is saved.

  • Confirm that the host is panel.singlebuck.ca.
  • Review the message shown by your SFTP application.
  • Choose the option to trust, allow, or accept the connection.

If the warning shows a different server address, stop and verify the connection details before continuing.

6

Open Your Website Folder

After connecting, the application normally displays your computer files on one side and your hosting files on the other.

Navigate to the document root shown for your website in the SingleBuck Hosting Panel. This is the folder containing the public files used by your domain.

For a WordPress website, the document root commonly contains files and folders such as:

wp-admin
wp-content
wp-includes
wp-config.php

Use caution: Do not delete or rename files unless you understand their purpose. Removing a WordPress system file, active theme, plugin, or configuration file may cause the website to stop working.

Understanding the File Manager

Your Computer

This area displays files stored locally on your device. Files dragged or uploaded from here are copied to your hosting service.

Your Website

This area displays the files stored within your SingleBuck hosting service. Downloading a file copies it to your computer.

Uploading Files

Locate the file on your computer, then drag it into the correct website folder or use the application’s Upload option.

Downloading Files

Select the file or folder stored on your hosting service and download it to a safe folder on your computer.

Replacing Files

If a file with the same name already exists, your application may ask whether you want to overwrite it. Only overwrite a file when you are certain that you have selected the correct replacement.

Reset Your SFTP Password

SFTP passwords are not displayed inside the Account Hub for security reasons. If you no longer have your original password, you can create a new one for the affected hosting service.

  • Sign in to your SingleBuck Account Hub.
  • Open My Account.
  • Select Tools.
  • Find the correct website under SFTP Connection Details.
  • Select Reset SFTP Password.
  • Confirm the reset when prompted.
  • Check your email for the new password.

The old password stops working immediately. After a reset, update the saved password in WinSCP, Cyberduck, FileZilla, or any other application previously connected to that service.

Resetting an SFTP password affects only the selected hosting service. Other websites and hosting services on your SingleBuck account are not changed.

Recommended Safety Practices

  • Download a backup before changing or deleting files.
  • Use SFTP rather than ordinary FTP.
  • Do not share your hosting username or SFTP password.
  • Do not save your password on a public or shared computer.
  • Confirm that you are connecting to panel.singlebuck.ca.
  • Disconnect when you are finished managing your files.
  • Reset the password immediately if you believe it has been exposed.

Troubleshooting SFTP

The connection times out

Confirm that the host is panel.singlebuck.ca, the protocol is SFTP, and the port is 22. A firewall or restricted network may also block the connection.

My username or password is rejected

Enter the username exactly as shown in the SingleBuck Hosting Panel. If you no longer have the correct password, reset it through the Tools panel.

I reset the password and the old one stopped working

This is expected. Resetting the SFTP password immediately replaces the previous password for that hosting service.

I cannot find my website files

Confirm that you connected using the credentials for the correct hosting service, then navigate to the document root shown in the SingleBuck Hosting Panel.

I have more than one website

Each hosting service has separate SFTP access. Return to the Tools panel and select the credentials belonging to the domain you want to manage.

I accidentally changed or deleted a file

Stop making additional changes. Restore the backup copy you downloaded before editing, or contact SingleBuck Support for assistance.
